Protests over paper leaks: SC to hear on Monday pleas relating to police action
The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a batch of pleas alleging police brutality during protests over exam irregularities and NEET paper leaks.
The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana may constitute an SIT headed by a former Supreme Court judge for a probe.
On July 28, the top court restrained states from coercive action against protesters and ordered release of those under 18 without criminal antecedents.
Allegations include use of pellet guns, lathis with nails, rubber bullets, and electric batons causing life-threatening injuries to students.
The court seeks to ascertain whether attacks on policemen were by students or miscreants, and may order an independent investigation.
