Couple dead, 5 hurt in rain-related mishaps in Jammu

A couple, Nazir Ahmed and Shakila Begum of Kashtigarh in Doda district, died after shooting stones hit a Tempo Traveller at Gangroo near Ramsoo on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH 44).

Five others were injured in the incident; the toll of rain-related deaths in Jammu region reached 24.

Three residential houses collapsed in Shikari village of Mahore in Reasi district; occupants evacuated in time.

Jammu-Srinagar NH 44, Jammu-Kishtwar NH 244, and Mughal Road were blocked due to landslides and mudslides.

All religious pilgrimages (Amarnath, Vaishno Devi, Shiv Khori, Machail Mata) remained suspended; about 6,000 pilgrims were at Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
