57-year-old man dies during crowd surge at Bahuda Yatra in Puri: Police

A 57-year-old devotee from Cuttack, Abhiram Das, died during a crowd surge at Puri’s Bahuda Yatra on July 25, 2026.

Das complained of breathlessness while pulling Goddess Subhadra’s Darpadalan chariot on the Grand Road.

He was taken to a nearby hospital by volunteers and RPF personnel, where he was declared dead on arrival; preliminary findings indicate suffocation.

This is the fourth death linked to this year’s Rath Yatra, following three deaths on July 16 during the main Rath Yatra.

The deceased from Cuttack was identified by police; his body was sent for postmortem and family informed.
