Air India building to host state cabinet meetings, lose airline logo

The Maharashtra government acquired the 23-storey Air India building at Nariman Point for ₹1,601 crore and will replace the airline's logo with the state government's logo or Ashok Stambha.

The state government will refurbish the conference hall on the 22nd floor to host cabinet meetings, while the 23rd floor will have a meeting room and cabins for the chief minister.

Of the 23 floors, 20 will be used to house state government offices, with two floors each proposed for 10 departments.

The building, built in 1974 as Air India's headquarters, was one of the targets of the 1993 serial blasts and later came under AI Assets Holding Limited after Air India's privatisation.

The income tax department, one of the last remaining occupants, has vacated the premises.
