Sarnath's ancient Buddhist site now a world heritage site: UNESCO

UNESCO inscribed the Ancient Buddhist Site in Sarnath on the World Heritage List during the 48th session of the world heritage committee in Busan, Korea.
Sarnath is where the Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment, according to sacred Buddhist texts.
With this inscription, India now has 45 World Heritage sites.
UNESCO's Tim Curtis emphasized Sarnath's significance as a place of pilgrimage and inspiration for over 2,500 years.
