8th Pay Commission: 5 latest updates boost hopes for 1.1 crore employees and pensioners
The 8th Pay Commission, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is completing nine months of its 18-month tenure and will finish half its term by the first week of August.
The Commission has issued notices for regional consultations: Chandigarh (September 16–18, 2026), Puducherry (September 9, 2026), and Chennai (September 7–8, 2026).
The finance ministry clarified in the Rajya Sabha that the 8th Pay Commission is not required to provide periodic progress reports to the Centre during its deliberations.
The Commission is expected to submit its final recommendations on fitment factor, salaries, pension reforms, and allowances in May-June 2027.
