EC Extends Karnataka Voter Roll Revision by 10 Days, Plans Weekend Camps
UPSC / SSC current affairs note · Polity
Why in news
The Election Commission has extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka by 10 days to August 8, 2026, to help voters who could not trace their details in the 2002 rolls. Weekend camps will be held to speed up the process. This is important for ensuring accurate voter rolls ahead of elections.
Background
The SIR is a periodic exercise to update electoral rolls, focusing on adding eligible voters and correcting errors. In Karnataka, the enumeration phase faced delays, especially in Bengaluru, prompting the extension.
