Taunted for his name, Jhandu etches his identity in Glasgow CWG

Jhandu Kumar won a bronze medal in para powerlifting for India at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

He lifted 190kg in the heavyweight (+72) division to score 130.9 points under the pDOTS system.

Gold went to Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris (132.8 pts), silver to England’s Matthew Harding (131 pts).

Jhandu failed on 196kg attempt; a successful lift would have earned him gold.

He is from Harnaut town in Bihar’s Nalanda district; his family celebrated his achievement.
