As a child, I was called zero: Para-powerlifter Jhandu Singh after winning India's first medal at CWG 2026

Jhandu Singh won India's first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, claiming bronze in the men's heavyweight para powerlifting event.

Diagnosed with polio at age five, Singh was called 'zero' and dismissed by others, but began transforming his body by riding a tricycle daily.

He sold vegetables with his father and later drove an e-rickshaw to fund his training, but sold it at half price before the 2023 National Championships, where he won no medal.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) inducted Singh into its programme after the nationals, providing coaching, diet, and training support.
