PM Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu applaud Sharmila Dhankar after India's first CWG para-athletics gold

Sharmila Dhankar won India's first Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold in the women's F57 shot put with a season-best throw of 9.81m.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Dhankar on X, calling her achievement a historic moment and noting it ended India's 20-year wait for a para-athletics gold at CWG.

President Droupadi Murmu also lauded Dhankar, stating her landmark feat will inspire young athletes.

India's previous para-athletics medal at CWG was Ranjith Kumar Jayaseelan's silver in 2006.
