Punjab roadways contractual workers hold statewide gate rallies, demand regularisation

Contractual employees of Punjab Roadways held gate rallies at 27 bus depots across the state, demanding regularisation of services and abolition of the contractual system.
State union leader Kulwant Singh alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government failed to fulfill its promise of regularising contractual employees despite repeated assurances.
The union claimed committees constituted by the government to examine the issue had failed to produce any results, and no contractual employee in the transport department had been regularised since the present government assumed office.
The union reiterated plans for a three-day strike from August 3 to 5 and protests outside the residences of the Chief Minister and Transport Minister if demands remain unresolved.
Union leaders Raminder Singh and Narinder Singh alleged irregularities in route scheduling, recruitment of outsourced staff, and attempts to implement a special cadre policy without addressing long-pending demands.
