Donald Trump steps in to save Gianni Infantino as FIFA chief faces unprecedented removal campaign: Report
Donald Trump has stepped in to help FIFA President Gianni Infantino retain power amid a removal campaign, according to The Telegraph.
Infantino's plan, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), would transfer commercial rights to the World Cup and other tournaments to a separate entity and sell a minority stake to investors, valued at about $20 billion.
The investment consortium is led by Joshua Kushner's Thrive Capital and Apollo Sports Capital; Joshua is the brother of Jared Kushner, linking the deal to Trump's family.
UEFA, all 55 member associations, and Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation opposed the plan, leading Infantino to shelve it.
Infantino argued FFE would increase payments to member associations from $8 million to $20 million per cycle.
