FIFA president Gianni Infantino faces rebellion after FIFA withdrew a plan to create a commercial subsidiary valued at ~$20 billion, selling a 20% stake to private investors.

UEFA, Concacaf, and parts of the Asian Football Confederation objected to insufficient consultation and scrutiny; Wales and England have withdrawn support for Infantino.

Victor Montagliani, Concacaf president, is emerging as the strongest challenger for the 2027 FIFA presidential election.

The election will be held in Rabat, Morocco, on March 18, 2027, with nominations closing on November 18.

Infantino retains support from many of the 211 national associations due to development funding, but a coalition across confederations could challenge him.
