Bengaluru has one public toilet per 30,000 people: study

Bengaluru has one public toilet for every 25,000–30,000 citizens, with only 800–900 public toilets for a population over 1.4 crore.

A public toilet audit by Bengaluru Political Action Committee (B.PAC) found that 37 of 142 toilets audited were completely non-functional.

Only six toilets were rated 'Very Clean', 58% had persistent foul odour, and only 56% were adequately lit, raising safety concerns.

Nearly 94% of toilets were inaccessible to persons with disabilities; water was available in only 40% of functional toilets, and none had soap dispensers or dustbins.

B.PAC recommended a 30-day emergency repair campaign and a shift to five-year Operate & Maintain contracts for better sanitation management.
