Bengaluru has approximately one public toilet for every 25,000 to 30,000 residents, with only about 900 facilities for a population of over 1.4 crore.

A B.PAC audit found 26% of 142 audited public toilets were completely non-functional, and 58% had a persistent foul odor.

Only 6 toilets (4.2%) were rated very clean; 56% had adequate lighting, raising safety concerns for women.

Accessibility is poor: just 9 toilets had ramps, making nearly 94% inaccessible to persons with disabilities, and only 40% had water.

The audit recommends urgent repairs, improved maintenance contracts, women-friendly facilities, and community involvement in monitoring.
