FIFA investigates Argentina players after controversial Falklands banner celebration

The banner refers to the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory claimed by Argentina.

The Argentine Football Association was fined £20,000 by FIFA in 2014 for a similar banner before a friendly against Slovenia.

The British government urged FIFA to investigate, with a spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer stating, 'The World Cup might not be ours, but the Falkland Islands definitely are.'

Argentine President Javier Milei backed the players, saying their actions were 'understandable' due to emotions.
