Meet Slavko Vincic, referee appointed for FIFA World Cup final: Slovenian has history with both Spain and Argentina

Slavko Vincic of Slovenia will referee the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday.

Vincic is the first Slovenian official to take charge of a World Cup final.

He previously refereed the 2024 UEFA Champions League final (Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund) and the 2022 UEFA Europa League final.

At this World Cup, he officiated three matches and issued a red card under the new 'Prestianni rule' for concealing abusive language.

Vincic said he was 'shaking' and 'incredibly honoured' upon learning of his appointment.
