India again denounces Pakistan’s crackdown in PoJK, urges global action
India denounced Pakistan's use of 'ruthless force' against civilian protesters in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and urged the international community to hold Islamabad accountable.
The crackdown has resulted in over 40 deaths and many injuries since June, according to external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Jaiswal cited remarks by Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif branding protesters as 'enemies' and by Rana Sanaullah, special assistant to PM Shehbaz Sharif, who admitted that Pakistan-trained mujahideen have turned against the state.
Sanaullah alleged the mujahideen were involved in efforts to seize Muzaffarabad and Mirpur in an 'India-like attack'. The protests are spearheaded by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and outlawed under an anti-terrorism law.
