Assam floods: Death toll rises to 80; state shifts focus to rehabilitation, announces loan relief

Assam's flood death toll reached 80 on Friday after two more deaths in Sivasagar, with over 2.12 lakh people affected across eight districts.

Charaideo is the worst-hit district with nearly 80,000 affected people, followed by Sivasagar (71,000) and Jorhat (40,000).

Relief operations are ongoing with 216 relief camps and 1,788 relief distribution centres sheltering 71,416 people.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a six-month moratorium on loan repayments for flood-affected people in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts, with banks agreeing to extend loan tenures by one to seven years.
