E20 petrol may harm BS-III vehicle rubber parts, says Nitin Gadkari
Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari informed Rajya Sabha that E20 petrol may harm rubber parts and gaskets in BS-III vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2016.
Studies by IOCL, Indian Institute of Petroleum, SIAM, and ARAI found BS-VI vehicles continued to meet emission norms when tested with E20 fuel.
Legacy vehicles did not show significant performance variations or abnormal wear with E20 fuel, and no engine modifications are needed.
Tests on BS-III vehicles indicated that some rubber parts and gaskets may require replacement when using E20 petrol.
