Cabinet approves Ballari-Guntakal rail project to boost freight, passenger connectivity
Union cabinet approved a Rs 1,264-crore project to add third and fourth rail lines on the Ballari-Guntakal section across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The project aims to ease congestion, improve freight movement, and strengthen connectivity along a key economic corridor.
It will increase Indian Railways network by approximately 46 km and is scheduled for completion by 2028-29.
The Ballari-Guntakal route is a major freight corridor for commodities like iron ore, coal, and fertilisers, and is expected to generate additional freight traffic of 16.22 million tonnes per annum.
The project will connect nearly 99 villages with a combined population of around seven lakh and is part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
