Mirabai Chanu wins third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold

Olympic silver medallist and world champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in the women's 48kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 190kg.

Mirabai Chanu served as flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

She described the podium moment as emotional, saying every sacrifice and difficult day of the last four years flashed before her eyes.

Mirabai faced persistent injuries after the Paris Olympics that affected her shoulder, hip, and wrist, making her fear further injury during heavy lifts.

Her coach Vijay Sharma managed her training, recovery, diet, and load management, which she credits for her successful comeback.
