Pothole kills Thane jawan who aided building collapse rescue 3 days before

Vikas Gore, a 31-year-old Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) jawan, died in a road accident on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway after his motorcycle hit a pothole on the Bharangi river bridge.

Gore had participated in the rescue operation at the Bhiwandi building collapse three days earlier; he was returning from his village to report for duty when the accident occurred.

His Bullet motorcycle hit a pothole, causing him to crash into a roadside safety barrier; he was taken to Shahapur Government Hospital but died during treatment.

Police Mitra Hamid Sheikh said the stretch between Kasara Ghat and Padgha is riddled with potholes and that repeated concerns raised about the road's poor condition went unaddressed; repair work began only after the death.

TDRF commandant Sachin Dubey stated that Gore had joined the force in 2019 and played a key role in rescuing people during the Kohinoor Apartment collapse in Bhiwandi.
