Marvel Studios confirmed Ryan Gosling will play Johnny Blaze as Ghost Rider in the MCU, replacing Nicolas Cage.
The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con by Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige.
Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, will direct the standalone Ghost Rider movie.
Ryan Gosling said he wanted to play Ghost Rider for a long time and was convinced by Levy during filming of Star Wars: Starfighter.
No release date has been set for the new Ghost Rider movie; this is Gosling's first superhero film.
