Ceuta migrant crisis deepens as thousands camp on beach, EU calls emergency talks

Spain estimates that about 69,500 migrants have returned to Morocco over the past four days from Ceuta.

Ceuta's leader Juan Jesus Vivas says between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remain, with two migrant reception centres having collapsed.

Local official Alberto Gaitan reported the city is processing 862 migrant minors, who have special legal protections from deportation.

The EU has called an emergency video conference meeting of interior ministers for Tuesday to discuss the crisis.

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares criticized Italy's government for helping amplify misinformation, and said Morocco had offered police support without conditions.
