EU to hold emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss Ceuta migrant crisis

The EU will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the migrant crisis in Spain's enclave of Ceuta.

An open letter from 22 of the EU's 27 member countries called for the meeting to 'prevent further uncontrolled crossings'.

The letter was initiated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen.

EU foreign policy chief Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the move, saying the bloc needed 'a lessons learned process'.

The letter did not include French and Portuguese leaders, whose countries directly border Spain.
