2.5 lakh cases pending in fast-track courts
Annual disposals by Fast-Track Special Courts (FTSCs) fell to 66,500 cases in 2025, down from 85,595 in 2024, a decline of more than 22%.
Pending cases rose from over 2 lakh at end-2024 to nearly 2.5 lakh by end-2025, up about one-third since 2021.
The FTSC scheme operates 775 courts (including 398 exclusive POCSO courts) against a target of at least 790, and has disposed nearly 3.9 lakh cases since inception.
Centre announced Fast-Track Courts for paper leak cases after the 2026 NEET fiasco, but existing FTSCs face structural challenges: rising inflows, judicial vacancies, and infrastructure limits.
