25 Democratic-led US states sue to block Trump's tariffs on India and 59 other trading partners

Democratic-led US states sued the Trump administration to block tariffs on India and 59 other trading partners, arguing the duties are unlawful and attempt to bypass earlier court rulings.

The lawsuit, filed in the US Court of International Trade in New York, seeks to declare the tariffs unlawful, block enforcement, and refund duties already collected.

The tariffs, effective July, impose 10% and 12.5% duties on imports from 60 trading partners, including India, China, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Norway, and the European Union.

The Trump administration justifies the tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, citing forced labor concerns; India was moved from 12.5% to 10% after tightening trade rules.

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated the administration is 'once again trying to illegally raise taxes' after losing at the Supreme Court.
