25 US States Sue Trump Over Sweeping New Tariffs On 60 Countries, Call It Illegal Tax Hike

U.S. states sued the Trump administration over new 10%-12.5% tariffs on 59 countries and the EU, calling them an illegal workaround.

The tariffs were imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, citing forced labor concerns, after the Supreme Court struck down prior IEEPA tariffs.

The lawsuit, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, argues the tariffs illegally raise taxes on families and businesses.

The administration contends Section 301 tariffs are legally durable and aim to address unreasonable trade practices, as stated by White House spokesman Kush Desai.
