Famed Climber Nirmal Purja, Nine Others, Die in Avalanche in Pakistan, Hiking Company Says

Nirmal Purja, a celebrated Nepali climber, died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, his company Elite Exped confirmed.
The avalanche occurred on Thursday on the 8,051-metre Broad Peak, the world's 12th highest mountain, in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region.
Purja and nine others were missing since Thursday; Elite Exped confirmed that Purja and other members of the expedition did not survive.
Purja set a record in 2019 for the fastest ascent of the world's 14 highest mountains, completing it in six months.
Purja gained international recognition after the Netflix documentary '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible' was released in 2021.
