India-China border trade through Nathula Pass resumes after six years

Border trade between India and China through the Nathula Pass resumed on Saturday after a six-year suspension.

The trade corridor had been closed since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and deteriorating bilateral ties after border tensions.

A formal reopening ceremony was held at Nathula in East Sikkim, with officials from both countries participating.

The resumption revives one of the oldest commercial routes along the ancient Silk Route.

The trade is seasonal and passes through the high-altitude mountain pass.
