Nathula pass border trade resumes after 6 years; traders seek expansion of goods list
Border trade via Nathula Pass in East Sikkim resumed after nearly six years, following closure since 2020 due to Covid-19 and border tensions.
The reopening ceremony was held at Nathula with officials from India and China participating.
Anil Gupta, General Secretary of the Indo-China Nathula Border Traders Welfare Association, credited Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for facilitating the resumption.
Traders are seeking an update to the goods list, currently limited to items like horses, sheep, and general goods, to include industrial products.
Around 300 traders have submitted applications for passes, with verification underway.
