US set to sign Saudi nuclear deal; Rubio says pact won't fuel proliferation

Trump administration expected to sign civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia as soon as Wednesday.

The 30-year pact could allow Saudi Arabia to develop uranium enrichment capabilities for its civilian nuclear programme.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted the deal includes safeguards to prevent nuclear proliferation.

The agreement would let the US and Saudi Arabia jointly study establishing a uranium enrichment facility in the kingdom.

American companies would be involved in developing Saudi Arabia’s civilian nuclear energy programme.
