1 killed, 17 injured as vehicle mows down crowd near Berlin's Pride celebrations

One person killed and 17 injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd near Berlin's Pride celebrations in Tiergarten park on Saturday evening.

Police identified an Islamist as the suspected perpetrator and are conducting a manhunt; the suspect is known to police as a member of the Islamist scene in Berlin.

The vehicle, described as white and possibly a car, minivan, or minibus, came to a stop after hitting a tree; the driver fled on foot.

Eight of the injured are seriously hurt, with three in life-threatening condition, according to the fire brigade spokesperson.

The Christopher Street Day festivities, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ events, were abruptly ended following the attack; hundreds of thousands had gathered peacefully earlier.
