Odisha Cabinet clears Bill for economic region authorities
Odisha Cabinet cleared the Odisha Development Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to amend the Odisha Development Authorities Act, 1982 for constituting Economic Region Development Authorities.
The amendment will empower authorities to govern multi-district economic corridors, allowing the state to establish future economic regions without new legislation each time.
The first City Economic Region, Bhubaneswar-Kataka-Puri-Paradeep Economic Region (BKPPER), developed with NITI Aayog, aims to integrate ports, industrial hubs, urban centers, logistics, and cultural sites.
Odisha Cabinet approved Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeevika Mission (MMJJM 2.0), targeting 8 lakh tribal and PVTG households across 19 districts, up from 1.5 lakh in 13 districts previously.
MMJJM 2.0 will run from 2026-27 to 2030-31. Union Budget 2026-27 recognized BKPPER as one of four vital City Economic Regions in India.
