Jana Nayagan, Vijay's final film, earned ₹78 crore worldwide on day 1, half of Leo's ₹150 crore and Coolie's ₹152 crore openings.

The film earned ₹41 crore net (₹48 crore gross) in India, falling short of projections and failing to enter the top 5 Tamil openings.

Hindi and Telugu dubs contributed just over ₹3 crore net, less than 10% of the total domestic gross.

Overseas, Jana Nayagan earned $3.2 million, including over $2 million from North America.
