Son of a tailor, Punjab''s Lovepreet wins silver with CWG ''snatch'' record

Lovepreet Singh won silver in men's 110kg weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

He set a new Games snatch record of 176 kg, taking a 10 kg lead into clean and jerk.

He finished 1 kg behind gold medalist David Andrew Liti of New Zealand, who won with a total of 389 kg.

Lovepreet is from Bal Sikander village in Punjab's Amritsar district; his father is a tailor.

He ended India's run of three medal-less weightlifting events at the Games.
