Shoulder surgery, 7 months out, one unforgettable throw: How Yash Vir Singh won CWG bronze

Yash Vir Singh won bronze in men's javelin at the Commonwealth Games with a personal-best throw of 85.41m in his final attempt, leaping from seventh to third.

He is only the third Indian to win a CWG medal in men's javelin, joining Neeraj Chopra (silver) on the podium for the first time in event history.

Singh's comeback followed shoulder surgery and seven months of rehabilitation, after which he worked as a ticket collector for Indian Railways.

Before his winning throw, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra advised him to keep it straight, not foul, and believe in himself, while his father and coach Rai Singh urged him to put everything into it.

The final featured a strong field including Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters, Keshorn Walcott, and Julius Yego; Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga won gold.
