Mumbai Police Arrests 26-Year-Old For Creating Fake APK Files Used In ₹63 Cr Cyber Fraud Across India

Mumbai Police arrested S.K. Mandal, a 26-year-old from West Bengal, for creating and selling fake APK files used in cyber frauds.

The fake APK files were linked to 2,993 cyber fraud cases across India, involving over ₹63 crore.

Mandal sold 91 APK files to cyber fraud gangs via social media for ₹15,000 each, receiving payments in cash.

Victims were tricked into installing fake APK files through WhatsApp, disguised as gas company apps, electricity bill updates, or RTO challan notifications.

Once installed, the APK files gave fraudsters remote access to victims' devices, enabling theft from bank accounts.
