Woman dies by suicide over alleged dowry harassment in Bengaluru
Maimunnisa, 31, died by suicide after alleged dowry harassment by her husband Junaid and father-in-law Nazir Ahmed in Bengaluru.
Maimunnisa's family had given 45g of gold jewellery, a branded watch, and a scooter as dowry at her marriage on Jan 19, 2024.
Junaid took Maimunnisa’s salary and subjected her to physical and mental harassment, while Ahmed verbally abused and pressured her for more dowry.
Junaid reported the death to police as a suicide by hanging; Maimunnisa's father filed a complaint holding them responsible.
Police arrested Junaid and Ahmed; they were remanded to judicial custody.
