National Judicial Data Grid figures: Noida has UP’s biggest backlog of cases, Lucknow a distant second

Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) has 918,575 pending cases, the highest backlog in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Lucknow with 482,288.

Noida's pendency is overwhelmingly driven by criminal cases, which account for approximately 889,000 out of 918,575 total cases.

Nearly 11.9 million cases were pending in Uttar Pradesh subordinate courts in mid-June, with Noida accounting for about 8% of the state's total case pendency.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh districts have a higher concentration of civil disputes, with Prayagraj leading at 79,355 civil cases.

The high number of cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act in Noida is attributed to its status as a hub for commercial activities, according to principal secretary Uday Pratap Singh.
