'Dismantle terror infrastructure first': India's US envoy hits out at Pakistan over Indus Waters Treaty
India's US envoy Vinay Mohan Kwatra said Pakistan eroded the Indus Waters Treaty's foundation of 'goodwill and friendship' over five decades.
Kwatra stated India's abeyance of the treaty merely acknowledged the damage Pakistan's conduct had already done to the 1960 agreement.
India placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance on April 23 last year, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people.
The treaty divides the Indus basin's six rivers, giving India control over eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej) and Pakistan over western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab).
Kwatra said Pakistan must first dismantle its terror infrastructure to seek India's cooperation on bilateral issues.
