Nepal seeks India's approval for biometric national identity card as travel document
Nepal has formally requested India to recognise its biometric National Identity (NID) card as an official travel document for cross-border travel.
The NID card contains biometric data including fingerprints, facial images, and iris scans.
Over 4.5 million Nepali citizens have received the card, with nearly 20 million applications submitted.
Nepal plans to eventually replace citizenship certificates with the NID card for banking, land registration, and public services.
