5 dead, 4 more missing after landslides in Nagaland’s Mon district

Five persons, including a 16-year-old, died and four others are missing after landslides in Nagaland’s Mon town on Sunday.

At least 45 houses were completely destroyed in landslides that struck multiple locations between 6am and 2pm.

A massive joint rescue operation involving SDRF, NDRF, Assam Rifles, local police, and residents is underway.

Mon town is completely isolated as roads from Tizit and Naginimora are cut off and a connecting bridge from Mokokchung has collapsed.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh per deceased and ₹74,000 for the injured, with essential supplies and shelter provided.
