Nine feared dead as torrential rains trigger landslides in Nagaland town

Nine people feared dead and 12 injured after landslides in multiple locations in Nagaland's Mon town.

Rescue teams have retrieved five bodies; four others remain missing under debris, said deputy commissioner Wennyei Konyak.

At least 45 houses were destroyed by landslides occurring between 6 am and 2 pm on July 20, 2026.

Mon town is completely cut off as roads from Tizit, Naginimora, and Mokokchung are blocked; a connecting bridge collapsed.

Chief minister Neiphiu Rio announced ex gratia of ₹4 lakh to next of kin of deceased and ₹74,000 to injured.
