SC: Will go the extra mile to fix issues, make NEET foolproof

Supreme Court said it will go the 'extra mile' to fix NEET issues and make it foolproof, citing troubling ad hocism in the system.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court the government was ready to 'tread 10 extra miles' to protect student interests, with the matter supervised at the highest level.

The Supreme Court granted the Centre time until August 3 to brief on contours of the new system and sought response on implementing a computer-based test for medical entrance like IIT-JEE.

The bench asked the government to address implementation of recommendations by the high-level committee headed by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan, including a governing board for transparency.

The court stressed institutionalisation over ad hocism and raised cybersecurity concerns about transitioning to computer-based testing, including data transfer and protection.
