‘Baseless’: India rejects reports of ‘deliberate’ flooding as water level rises in Chenab; cites Pak’s weather advisory
India rejected Pakistani media reports alleging deliberate flooding, calling them 'baseless' and contrary to facts.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said high water levels in the Chenab River resulted from intense monsoon rainfall over Jammu and adjoining catchment areas from July 20–23, 2026.
Jaiswal cited Pakistan's own Flood Forecasting Division advisory of July 22, 2026, which attributed high flood levels to heavy rainfall over the upper catchment.
India maintained the rise in river flows was a natural hydrological response, not the result of any deliberate action by India.
