Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal at CWG 2026 in the women's 48kg weightlifting event.
She lifted a total of 190kg (85kg snatch and 105kg clean and jerk), setting a new Games and Commonwealth record.
This was Mirabai Chanu's third consecutive CWG gold medal, adding to her 2018 and 2022 victories and a silver in 2014.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed her as an 'inspiration for every Indian' and congratulated her on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan also congratulated Mirabai Chanu.
