Nair Hospital to get city’s first dedicated disaster management ward

Dr BYL Nair Hospital at Mumbai Central will get a dedicated disaster management ward, the first among Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation-run hospitals.
The ward will occupy an entire floor of the upgraded casualty block and is expected to be operational in six months with 21 beds initial capacity.
It is designed to handle large-scale emergencies like bomb blasts, building collapses, fires, road accidents, and earthquakes, with mass casualty capabilities.
The facility includes a patient decontamination room for hazardous substance exposure and a blood collection room for rapid testing.
Patients will be stabilized at the disaster ward before being referred to specialized facilities like Kasturba Hospital for burns or orthopedic care.
