India name Chess Olympiad squads as Gukesh, Pragg, Vaishali lead title defence
India announced men's and women's squads for the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan (September 16–27), aiming to defend both Open and Women's team titles won in 2024.
The men's team includes D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Nihal Sarin, and Vidit Gujrathi, with Srinath Narayanan as captain.
The women's team features Koneru Humpy, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Savitha Shri B, captained by Swayams Mishra.
R Praggnanandhaa enters the event after winning the Norway Chess tournament in June, defeating Magnus Carlsen and D Gukesh.
R Vaishali became the first Indian woman to win the FIDE Women's Candidates earlier this year and leads the women's title defense.
